Lawrence Ferrara

guitar; guitar ensemble

Distinguished as a teacher and performer, Lawrence Ferrara is the first guitarist to receive a master's degree from the Conservatory. A committed educator, Mr. Ferrara is also on faculty at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. Mr. Ferrara has performed major recitals in San Francisco, Toronto, Barcelona and Los Angeles, and at the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. He has appeared as soloist with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, the Bay Chamber Symphony, the Classical Philharmonic and the Conservatory's Chamber Orchestra and New Music Ensemble. Mr. Ferrara was twice prizewinner at the Carmel Classic Guitar Competition, has served on the Music Advisory Panel to the National Endowment of the Arts and is the author and performer of a sequence of music books titled The Student Repertoire Series for Guitar, Vol. 1 and 2, with accompanying CDs, published by Guitar Solo of San Francisco. He has a solo CD of American Guitar Works on the VGo label and won the California Virtual Campus (CVC) Award in 2004 for the "Best Online Teaching Website."
